24 hour access

Access to Local Councils during working hours can be difficult for some people due to work or other commitments. Victoria's Manningham City Council has gone a long way to overcoming this problem. It has recently introduced touch screen information kiosks at seven community locations. These can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Manningham prides itself on being at the leading edge of information technology for providing improved services. The information kiosks are a key component of Council's electronic service delivery project, Info-Lynx. It already incorporates Council's home page, Customer Feedback System and the internal Info Shelf.

Cr Bob Beynon, Mayor of Manningham said the touch screen kiosks enable people to access a wealth of Council information and community activities at a number of central locations in the City.

"No longer will it be necessary for people to come into the Council offices to gain information about Council services, they can access the information via their home computer or at a kiosk," he said. Part of the State Government's Electronic Service Delivery Project, known as Maxi Multi-Media, in the future the kiosks will enable residents to undertake routine transactions such as rates payments.

"Electronic Service Delivery is the way of the future and Manningham is a the forefront of this development," Cr Beynon said.
