Welcome to the heart of Australia's Holiday Coast

Almost midway between Sydney and Brisbane, Hastings Council has 85 kilometres of superb coastline. While in the area, why not throw in a line, try windsurfing or scuba diving or, for those looking for a more laid back time, take a stroll along one of the many beaches or simply relax in the sun.

To the west is the Great Dividing Range. Here visitors can experience the beauty of lush rainforests and captivating mountain views. A 30 minute drive to North Brother Mountain is well worth the trip, providing spectacular views along the coast.

Port Macquarie, at the mouth of the Hastings River and with a population of 36,000, is Council's major centre. Other main towns include Wauchope, Laurieton and Kendall. Each with their own special character and attractions, they are all well worth a visit while in the region.

With an abundance of man made and natural attractions, as well as providing an excellent Conference venue, delegates are encouraged to come early or stay longer to take full advantage of one of the most beautiful and relaxing places in Australia.

Tranquil blue seas, bountiful rivers, estuaries and lakes all teem with native flora and fauna. In Port Macquarie itself, koalas are quite common particularly along the many untouched green belts. The area is home to one of the largest koala colonies on the east coast.

Koalas can find cohabiting with cars and domestic pets a difficulty. As a result, a Koala Hospital and Study Centre has been established. Located in Port Macquarie, this Centre is open to the public and well worth a visit.

In addition to fresh air, sun and other natural wonders, all there for the taking and cost free, dolphins, whales and soaring sea eagles are also known to frequent coastal waters. There is plenty to see and do. Hastings is certainly a great place to unwind from the pressures of city living.
