National program of local government workshops

Communities in rural and regional Australia are facing a period of great uncertainty and change. There are many issues&emdash;social, economic and environmental&emdash;that need to be addressed and acted on to ensure that communities are economically and socially sustainable over the longer term.

The diversity of needs and perspectives in communities provides a challenge to local government to identify practical ways in which they can assist their communities to grow and adapt&emdash;to better manage complexity and change.

As the level of government closest to these communities, there is both an opportunity and an obligation for local government to offer clear and strong leadership in addressing these issues.

To enhance communication between all levels of government and their communities in rural and regional Australia, the National Office of Local Government is inviting local government to participate in a series of workshops to be held around Australia.

Workshop aims

The purposes of this workshop are to:

  • help identify and promote regional and local examples of best practice in local government leadership and activities
  • establish agreement about key strategic issues for local government in various regions across Australia over the next 3 -5 years
  • have regional and local issues communicated to the Commonwealth
  • develop regional plans to action workshop outcomes.

If you would like to attend any of these workshops please call the Workshop Secretary on (02) 9387 2600
