Road Safety Grants for New South Wales CouncilsIn February Motor Accidents Authority General Manager David Bowen met with the Board of the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (IPWEA-NSW Division) to announce funding over three years for Council road safety activity, including the IPWEA/RTA Local Government Road Safety Project Grants Scheme. As part of the NSW Local Government Road Safety Program, this grant scheme aims to foster road safety strategic planning and effective road safety activity with a behavioural or education focus in Councils across NSW. Submissions are now invited from all NSW Councils for the 2000/01 IPWEA/RTA Local Government Road Safety Project Grants. Funding of up to $5,000 is available for a successful single Council submission. Joint submissions from a number of Councils are also welcome and may be eligible for larger grants. Projects which describe a planned response to an identified local road safety issue and projects with an emphasis on evaluation, planning or local research to clearly identify a road safety problem and appropriate countermeasures will be prioritised for funding. Submissions from Councils without designated road safety personnel are also encouraged. A feature of this current grant round is the opportunity to offer workshops for project coordinators from such Councils to support them in their initiative. A 'Call for Submissions' paper for the IPWEA/RTA Local Government Road Safety Project Grants Scheme has now been sent to all NSW Councils. If you would like more information please contact the IPWEA Road Safety Project Manager, Julie Edwards, telephone 02 8267 3012 or email jedwards@ipwea.org.au |
