Job resource guide for workers and employersMelbourne's Hume City Council has produced an Employment Resource Guide with the aim of improving and expanding employment information and networks. The Hume Employment Resource Guide was developed by Council's Economic Development Unit in response to an initiative of the Jobs for Hume Taskforce. The Taskforce, comprising local industry leaders, educators, politicians, residents, Councillors and Council Officers, identified a gap in employment information following the break up in 1998 of the Commonwealth Employment Service. The Guide is intended to fill the breach. It comes in three booklets, one for employers, one for jobseekers and one for school students. Each booklet sets out government, not for profit and private sector organisations, and other initiatives that can assist with employment, recruitment, training, legal requirements and other matters of specific interest. This includes special programs for ethnic groups, literacy, job network services and self employment initiatives. Included in each booklet is a Change of Details form enabling networks to be kept up to date. Acting Manager Economic Development, Margaret Larmer, said for the first time local job seekers have easy access to all of the resources, services and training opportunities available to them. "Employers will benefit by being able to tell at a glance what government initiatives exist to support them to employ new people," she said.
