Regional Tourism Conference in the heart of the countryWhere better to hold a regional tourism conference than in the centre of Australia? In April delegates will travel from across Australia to Alice Springs to take part in the National Regional Tourism Conference hosted by Tourism Council Australia. Coordinator Economic and Community Development with Alice Springs Town Council, Peter Davis said the conference weekend from 7-10 April would be a major drawcard for Alice Springs. "It will give the town an opportunity to showcase our best practice in regional tourism," he said. The conference will be a celebration of Regional Australia focusing on best practice in regional tourism. Expected to attract over 300 delegates, a welcome function will be held at the Alice Springs Desert Park followed by three days of discussion on issues affecting regional tourism development, such as the retention of staff. Guest speakers include Professor John Chudleigh, Chairman Regional Australia Summit, who will discuss the Summit and give an update on the $16 million Domestic Tourism initiative. Swimming coach Laurie Lawrence will deliver one of his famed motivational speeches discussing tourism beyond the Sydney Olympics. Other presenters include Deputy Prime Minister, John Anderson, CEO Partnership Australia Domestic Ltd, Graham Perry, and Managing Director TCA, Phil Young. Workshops cover wide ranging issues for regional tourism. These include critical success factors for regional tourism, e-commerce, cultural tourism as a regional imperative and regional funding.
