Brighton Community Newspaper celebrates its
first year
Brighton community, business and government
representatives recently celebrated the first anniversary of the
publication of the Brighton Community Newspaper at Brighton Council
Offices.
Brighton General Manager Geoff Dodge told the gathering that the
eight page newspaper, distributed monthly to every household and
business in the municipality, has contributed positively to the
development of community spirit.
"Twelve months ago, Mayor Tony Foster stood here and spoke to many
of you about the need for a community newspaper to fill the void left
following the closure of Hobart's two suburban papers," Geoff Dodge
said.
"I am proud to say today that in its first year of operation,
Brighton Community News has, I believe, done just that &endash; and
more &endash; for this community. Each edition provides an excellent
mix of hard and soft news stories, photographs and information of
relevance and benefit to the local community.
"In addition, BCN has provided a valuable marketing tool for many
local businesses, service providers and community groups who are able
to directly speak to their target audiences.
"But most importantly, we have acknowledged the achievements of so
many of our community members, from athletes, to businesspeople, to
community leaders, who are all providing encouragement for others to
fulfil their dreams."
Geoff Dodge thanked everyone who had contributed during the past
year and encouraged them to continue their support.
