Wins all round with new arrangements for paying rates

In the current financial year, Tennant Creek Town Council has introduced an instalment payment system for rates. This replaces the previous method of giving residents an eight percent discount for paying in full within 120 days of the notices being issued.

Council has developed a system where only one rate notice is issued every financial year showing each instalment payment and its due date. Reminders are issued 28 days prior to the payment due date.

The new system of rates has the following advantages for ratepayers and Council.

  • Provides a system more equitable to all ratepayers.
  • Improves cash flow management for both businesses and Council.
  • Eases the financial burden on ratepayers.

Council offers two methods of paying rates, either paying the amount in full or paying the four instalments on or before the due date. Pensioner concession is available for eligible ratepayers in accordance with the memorandum of understanding between Tennant Creek Town Council and the Northern Territory Health Services.
