Bali memorial wins special engineering awardRandwick City Council’s memorial to the victims of the Bali bombings has won a Special Community Service Award. Organised by the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia NSW Division, the 2004 Excellence Awards were presented at its annual conference which was staged in Sydney on 23–26 May. Of the 202 people who lost their lives as a result of the bombing, 88 were from Australia with 41 from New South Wales. Of these 20 came from Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. Randwick’s memorial sculpture is located at the headland of Dunningham Reserve Coogee. It has been officially dedicated as Dolphins Point in memory of the six young members of the Coogee Dolphins Amateur Rugby League club who died in the bombings. The judges said that this project has emotional significance to the community at large now and into the future. They said this is a case of public works professionals recognising community needs and contributing in a positive way to satisfy those needs. Other 2004 award winners were as follows:
