The Maroochy Shire is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia. Only one hour’s drive north of Queensland’s capital Brisbane, Maroochy is as diverse as it is popular. With its lush green hinterland, mountain ranges with sweeping views to the ocean and 25 kilometres of beautiful beaches, Maroochy offers everything from refreshing rainforests to the sparkling blue waters of the coast, all within 30 minutes drive of each other.

The Shire is divided into 12 Divisions represented by the Mayor and a total of 12 elected Councillors.

The Noosa Shire is located to the north of Maroochy and to the south is Caloundra City. For a number of years, Maroochy has been the fifth fastest growing of almost 700 Local Governments across Australia.

First formed in 1890, Maroochy Shire Council provides major services to a population of more than 130,000 over an area of 1,157 square kilometres. It has an annual operating budget in excess of $200 million.

The geography of the area is very diverse including coastal beachfront and river areas, developing industrial and business areas, hinterland townships and large agricultural areas. The main suburbs and towns in the Shire include Nambour, Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland, Maroochydore, Buderim, Woombye, Palmwoods, Mapleton, Montville, Kenilworth, Bli Bli, Coolum, Yandina, Eumundi, Flaxton, Marcoola, and Mountain Creek.
