A new pool for Halls Creek

After 25 years of lobbying for Federal and State funding has paid off with work now commenced on a swimming pool complex for Halls Creek. Council will make up the funding shortfall. Stage 1 includes a 25 metre pool, wader’s pool, kiosk, change rooms and managers office. Stage II will provide two undercover basketball courts. Both stages are expected be completed early in 2006 at a total cost of 6.7 million dollars.

“It is expected that usage will be greatest by locals over the summer months, while tourists are likely to use the facility more over the winter months,” said Shire President, Councillor Lyn Craig.

Located in the main street of Halls Creek, the pool is the newest acquisition of a number of community facilities, including a new police station, hospital and resource centre. “These are all providing vital services and raising local pride within the town,” Councillor Craig said.

The pool will offer a range of water related sports and activities. Council will also enforce a ‘no school no pool policy’ which has been a successful program elsewhere to increase school attendance. Located close to Council’s oval complex, the pool will include a multi purpose room for dry activities. Barbecue areas and functions will also be available for family outings and group functions.
