Young job seekers find Bright Future in new media programme

Unemployed people in the City of Gosnells are getting a chance to break into the highly competitive media and film industries thanks to a new Work for the Dole initiative. Vastly different to traditional Work for the Dole activities, which have mainly focused on labouring, maintenance and environmental tasks, the City’s two new programmes – Youth Media and Community Events – cater for jobseekers with creative passion.

The programmes are giving young people a chance to develop skills in film making (camera operation, lighting, sound, research techniques, interviewing and editing) and events management (marketing and promotions, print layout and design, media liaison and risk management.)

Last year, Youth Media won the animated film section in the Inspire Foundation’s inaugural ‘KickArse’ short film competition, while earlier this year Community Events organised the youth section of the “Bright Future” Festival at Gosnells Town Centre, as well as activities for seniors and several urban art projects.
