Regulation Reduction Fund launchedThe Australian Government’s new $50 million Regulation Reduction Incentive Fund to cut red tape for small and home based businesses was launched on 5 July. This $50 million program provides Local Governments with incentives to achieve regulatory and compliance reforms that will benefit small business, and in particular, home based businesses. Despite the fast growth of this sector in recent years, home based business operators continue to face a set of unique challenges. Councils can play a vital role in helping home based businesses meet these challenges. In return, local communities can benefit from the economic and social contribution these businesses make. Proposals to be funded under the program must be focused on the sustainable reform of Local Government regulatory regimes and compliance procedures which deliver measurable cost reductions to small and home based businesses in their dealings with Councils. The closing date for applications for funding under the Regulation Reduction Incentive Fund is 5pm AEST on Wednesday 31 August 2005.
